One of my all-time favorite verses, especially since I struggle with being still. In the stillness, we remove the static and noise that interferes with what God is trying to tell us and show us who He is. Ironically, this picture was taken in Newport, RI, one day before Hurricane Irene hit. The calm before the storm. When you are still (calm), get ready for God to storm into your life. Amen!

This verse spoke to me at a crossroads I was facing to stay with an employer during the height of a recession or move on. Fear of losing financial security by leaving my employer paralyzed me into a decision to stay despite the rub against my values. But on February 16, 2009, I flipped to Proverbs 16. When I don't know where to go in the Bible, I often read the verse in Proverbs that corresponds to the date, 2/16...Proverbs 16. It was on that day that God made my decision for me. "Don't stay because you need the gold and silver, trust me." And I did. I took my severance package and was thinking God wanted me to make this decision so I could spend more time with Him in His word. Little did I know that His plan was much greater than I ever imagined. In the height of the recession in 2009, where it took many months to secure a job (if you were lucky), I landed a new job with Deloitte THREE weeks after my last day.

Without God's wisdom and hand over my life, all the silver and gold would not make a dent in the plan God has laid out for me. Trust Him and be obedient.
